Superintendent

Rick Martinez serves as the Superintendent of Schools for Denver City Independent School District, where he is committed to providing every student with exceptional educational opportunities while fostering a culture of service, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Raised in rural West Texas, Rick understands the values that define small communities—hard work, integrity, relationships, and perseverance. Those experiences continue to shape his leadership philosophy and his belief that public schools are the heart of a community.

Rick began his career in education as a teacher and coach and has since served as an assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent, interim superintendent, and superintendent. Throughout his career, he has remained focused on supporting students, empowering educators, and building strong partnerships with families and the community.

Since becoming superintendent, Rick has focused on strengthening the district’s financial health while expanding opportunities for students. He believes sound financial stewardship creates the foundation for excellent schools, allowing the district to invest strategically in people, programs, and facilities that benefit students and the community. His leadership emphasizes thoughtful planning, transparency, and preparing students for success beyond graduation.

Rick is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Abilene Christian University. His research explores how formative life experiences shape the beliefs and decision-making of Texas public school superintendents, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and advancing the profession of educational leadership.

Beyond his work in public education, Rick is an author, researcher, and presenter who enjoys sharing ideas that strengthen leadership, organizational culture, and student success. He believes leadership is ultimately about serving others and creating opportunities that allow people and communities to thrive.

Rick considers it a privilege to serve the students, staff, families, and community of Denver City ISD. He remains committed to working alongside the Board of Trustees, employees, and community members to build on the district’s proud traditions while preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities.
