Fillies win first ever 4A district title

DC advances to area against Ft. Stockton

The Denver City Fillies made history this season by winning their first ever Conference 4A district title. The Fillies, who finished the district season with an unblemished 10-0 record, are ranked #10 in the state by the Texas Girls Coaches Association with an overall season record of 32-8.

In 2015, the Fillies made it to the UIL State Volleyball tournament in Conference AAA, before falling to eventual state champion Jewett: Leon in the state semi-final match. Six seniors graduated from that team, leaving the Fillies with a rebuilding process ahead of them. In addition, UIL realignment sent Denver City from AAA to AAAA, which was uncharted territory. However, the team was committed to "reloading and refocusing" in 2016 and they have done just that.

In the bi-district round of the playoffs, the Fillies defeated Dalhart in 3 sets to advance to the area round against Ft. Stockton. That game is scheduled to be played in Monahans on Saturday, November 5th at 6:00 p.m.

The 2016 Fillie squad consists of 7 seniors: Jacee Billings, Aubrey Burris, Marlow Davis, Logan McLeroy, Denisse Saenz, Claire Seymour, and Chanie Wingo; one junior, Macey Jordon; and one sophomore, Holly Hemmeline.  Heading the Denver City program, is Head Coach Megan David and her assistants: Coach Jenny McCray and Coach Kody Brown.
